WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

Suppression Systems are configurable to operate as a master or stand-alone system, or they can interface with a wide variety of others, including pre-existing security, alarm, and suppression systems within a facility

The typical systems we install are based on the following suppressants:

CLEAN AGENTS

Clean Agents have rapidly become a preferred suppressant for many applications, and here’s why:

     1. Systems extinguish fires more quickly than water-based systems.

     2. They permeate obstructed spaces, filling the entire room with a concentrated, people-safe gas that will not support fire.

     3. They are electrically non-conductive, require no clean-up, and cause no direct damage to business assets, *i.e. computers, etc.

We utilize several brands and types of clean agents.

CO2

Carbon Dioxide is also used to protect a wide variety of industrial and commercial spaces. It is an odorless, colorless, electrically non-conductive, environmentally safe gas that serves as a highly efficient suppression agent.

Upon discharge, it simultaneously cools the air and reduces the amount of oxygen to a level which can no longer support combustion. Its high ratio of expansion allows for rapid discharge and thorough saturation of the entire hazard area. Once discharged, CO2 leaves no additional residue to clean-up.

A Fire Defense Carbon Dioxide System is available for use in total flooding or localized area type protection. Typical applications for our CO2 Suppression Systems are: Electrical Equipment, Flammable Liquid Storage, Chemical Processing Equipment, Dip Tanks and/or Quench Operations, Switchgear Rooms, Food Processing Equipment, Spray Booths, Paint Lockers, Printing Presses, Power Generation, Industrial Ovens, Coating Machines, etc.

Fire Defense provides all necessary system components and accessories yielding a well-designed, user friendly system package. Sophisticated control panels, delayed action devices, warning signs, manual release stations, automatic detection, and a variety of warning devices are available and customizable for each location.

FOAM

Fire-fighting foam is a stable, dense mass of small, air-filled pockets, which has a lower density than gasoline, oil, or water. Foam is made up of three ingredients: water, a foam concentrate, and air.

Water is mixed with a carefully proportioned foam concentrate to form the foam solution. This solution is then aspirated in order to produce a foam which quickly and stably flows over fuel surfaces. Foam types are chosen by their purpose.
High-expansion foams are used for enclosed spaces like basements or hangars, which need to be filled quickly, while low-expansion foams are used on fuel spills

DRY CHEMICAL

Industrial Dry Chemical Fire Suppression Systems utilize stored, pressurized dry chemicals combined with a fixed nozzle distribution network. These systems are listed with Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) and/or are approved by Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FMRC)

They are capable of automatic detection and activation in addition to remote manual activation. Other useful functions such as electrical power shut downs to equipment or devices which close the flow of gas lines are also available at your request.

Automatic detection is provided by means of specifically rated fusible links, electric thermal detectors, and a host of other detection products. Dry Chemical Systems can be arranged for hazards that require total or localized flooding, tank side, or other local application nozzles. Many types of Dry Chemical Agents are available. Please call us so we can advise the best one for your application.

HALON

Halon gases were introduced in the 1960’s to 70’s as fire suppressants that would not damage valuable assets upon deployment.

Due to growing environmental concerns, all manufacturing of Halon gas was ceased as of 1994; however, it is still possible to recycle and redistribute halon gas for use in certain applications.

All Fire Suppression Equipment Is Pre-Tested
 For Maxium Dependability And Reliability

Fire Defense Equipment Co., Inc. was founded in 1949, as a family owned business operating out of a small shop in Detroit.

Six decades later, Fire Defense Inc. remains a family owned business dedicated to its initial goal: protecting people and their businesses from the devastation that can result from inadequate fire protection.

We now operate out of a larger, more modern facility in Royal Oak, Michigan, to better meet the demands of our clients’ needs, and we have also just recently purchased an additional building to provide space for research and development as well as storage.

We are members of several prominent associations, including The National Fire Protection Association, The National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors, and the Fire Suppression Systems Association. Fire Defense is involved in the sales and service of portable extinguishers, fire hose and accessories, propane, and fire suppression systems.

New State-Of-The-Art Fire Suppression Systems

And Deliver Peace Of Mind For Years To Come

The types of systems we sell and service include restaurant systems, high speed detection and suppression, water deluge, fire alarms, FM-200, carbon dioxide, and clean agent systems.

Service of the equipment that we sell has been the source of much of our repeat business. We provide 24-hour emergency service and normally stock spare parts for all the equipment that we sell. We only sell a product after thoroughly testing it for effectiveness and reliability.

Fire Defense currently represents several manufacturing firms, which we have represented for over 30 years. We also limit our number of products to insure quality control and stay on top of the most current product developments. Chrysler, LLC has been a long-term customer of Fire Defense.

We currently maintain their fire protection systems at production plants within the United States, Canada, and Mexico. We also service facilities for CB Richard Ellis/Comerica and The Kroger Company to mention a few. Listed below are their contacts for references.
